The Best Method of Learning IELTS

The best method of learning IELTS is to approach it as you would for any difficult language. I say difficult not because English is a difficult langauge but more because the IELTS test structure is difficult. You might be surprised to learn that many English speakers would struggle with the IELTS exam. Even if they pass, they may not attain the high IELTS band score that they may expect as anative English speaker.

So, what is the best method of learning IELTS you may be asking!

Well, the best method for you may be a little different to someone else but generally if you do the following,  you’d be well on your way to a good result.

IELTS Listening:

  • One of the difficults in the IELTS listening test is the different accents you may encounter. Because English is spoken so widely and in different parts of the world, the accent of an Englishman is very different to an American and  Australian. So the best way to solve this issue is to expose yourself to these difference accents. Fortunately there are many ways to achieve this. You can listen to pod casts on the internet or internet radio, or perhaps even borrow tapes, CD’s from your local library.
  • If you have the opportunity to talk with a native  english speaker from any english speaking country then this would be of great value. For when you engage with them in conversation, you not only learn to understand their accent but you get all the cues and feedback to really understand. Listening to audio files is openended and you don’t get the immediate feedback as you do when you talk to someone.
